The National Library in Bela Crkva presented the book “Tastes of Deliblat Sandstone – Gastronomic Heritage”, which is dedicated to the cultural-historical and gastronomic heritage of the largest desert in Europe, published by the Institute for the Study of Cultural Development of Serbia.
Speaking at the promotion were: Dejan Zagorac, editor of the publication; Slavko Spasić, director of the Natural History Museum in Belgrade and Grozdana Milenkov, director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Pančevo.
“The book “Tastes of Deliblat Peščara” is a bilingual edition in Serbian and English and brings us everything we always wanted to know about the traditional cuisine, characteristic of this area, but also about natural and cultural sights. Members of different nationalities live in the area around Deliblatska peščara, so the gastronomic offer is characterized by great diversity. Every community has its specialties, and recipes for many of them can be found in this book,” said Dejan Zagorac, editor of the book, political scientist and researcher at the Institute for the Study of Cultural Development.
The director of the Museum of Natural History in Belgrade, Slavko Spasić, spoke about the natural characteristics of the Deliblata Sandstone, with special reference to the afforestation that began back in 1818 and continues to this day.
Director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Pančevo, Grozdana Milenkov, pointed out that the book “Tastes of the Deliblat Sandstone” represents the synergy of the work of several institutions.
