The presentation of Zaprokul research of national importance and another in a series of creative workshops that we conduct throughout Serbia “Culture of accessibility” was held at the international conference MUSEUMS AND INCLUSION, in the Matica Srpska Gallery in Novi Sad.
The conference was opened with a musical program by young artists, students of the Veljko Ramadonović School for Visually Impaired Students, and the welcome speech was given by Tijana Palkovljević Bugarski, PhD, manager of the MS Gallery, congratulating Zaprokul on his comprehensive and significant research, which will help museums and galleries face the problem of accessibility.
In order to improve cultural rights and the well-being of the community, but also to overcome obstacles, Zaprokul researchers Marijana Milankov and Bogdana Opačić held a workshop in the form of a “pub-quiz” where the audience could learn about the current situation in museums and galleries. but also to hear significant proposals for improvement and development.
The conducted research showed that only 24.2% of museum institutions are physically accessible for visitors who have some kind of disability, and that the biggest challenge for institutions is communication and information accessibility, with 75.6% of institutions not meeting this criterion. This is precisely why Zaprokul, through this research, gave some of the most important guidelines and recommendations on how to improve accessibility in culture. With the same goal, Zaprokul will continue a series of such important workshops throughout Serbia during the year.
